Exbiblio is challenging the way people view their interactions with paper as well as the way companies interact with the world that surrounds and sustains them. We believe that companies have a responsibility to their extended stakeholders and society to generate more than profits. Our business model is predicated on the belief that combining the values of an aggressively for-profit commercial enterprise with a commitment to positive social and environmental impact creates enormous synergies. We expect that our commercial venture will be more successful because of our social and environmental commitment and activities. We are also confident that we will achieve greater impact with the resources we invest in environmental projects because of the involvement and participation of our commercial venture in those projects. Our goals are to:
Exbiblio is going beyond the traditional "giving back" approach of making donations to worthy causes once the company has achieved significant commercial success. Our unique business model builds twin organizational entities in parallel, one a ".com", the other a ".org". The .org, through various initiatives, will both fund environmental projects and participate in their execution. The funding to support the .org will be provided from various sources. These include direct funding from the .com pre-revenue and funding from the results of operations post-revenue. In addition, all of our stakeholders participate in the commitment to the .org as the .org owns a dilution-protected 15% of the .com. With the near-term funding, we can have an immediate, positive impact and, in fact, have already made significant grants to several environmental non-profit organizations. As we create long-term value with our .com, we are also creating long-term value for the .org through its 15% ownership of the .com. With a successful .com, this ownership stake can provide a significant source of funding for environmental projects well into the future.
Our approach to creating a sustainable enterprise is more that just the responsible thing to do, or a way to keep ahead of regulatory requirements. We believe that our .org is an "asset" rather than a "liability" of the .com. The benefits include improved employee loyalty and retention, a highly motivated workforce and the ability to recruit top talent. This approach can also build trust with customers, partners and vendors. All of these have the ability to create significant value for our commercial venture.
Conversely, the .org half of our enterprise benefits from steady, assured funding that provides the opportunity for long-range planning and goal setting, typical challenges for traditional NGOs. This, combined with sharing resources and expertise with the .com side of the business, enables the .org to create more impact for every dollar it bestows in grants.
Exbiblio believes businesses can and must drive progressive change, and that it will be more successful commercially because of its social and environmental actions. By combining the creativity and drive of business and its ability to generate capital with the passion and focus on social good inherent within the non-profit world, our company intends to create both superior, innovative technologies as well as significant positive impacts on the environment.
